Moving target defense: state of the art and characteristics Review

Gui-lin CAI,Bao-sheng WANG,Wei HU,Tian-zuo WANG

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2016, Volume 17, Issue 11,   Pages 1122-1153 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1601321

Abstract: Moving target defense (MTD) has emerged as one of the game-changing themes to alter the asymmetric situation between attacks and defenses in cyber-security. Numerous related works involving several facets of MTD have been published. However, comprehensive analyses and research on MTD are still absent. In this paper, we present a survey on MTD technologies to scientifically and systematically introduce, categorize, and summarize the existing research works in this field. First, a new security model is introduced to describe the changes in the traditional defense paradigm and security model caused by the introduction of MTD. A function-and-movement model is provided to give a panoramic overview on different perspectives for understanding the existing MTD research works. Then a systematic interpretation of published literature is presented to describe the state of the art of the three main areas in the MTD field, namely, MTD theory, MTD strategy, and MTD evaluation. Specifically, in the area of MTD strategy, the common characteristics shared by the MTD strategies to improve system security and effectiveness are identified and extrapolated. Thereafter, the methods to implement these characteristics are concluded. Moreover, the MTD strategies are classified into three types according to their specific goals, and the necessary and sufficient conditions of each type to create effective MTD strategies are then summarized, which are typically one or more of the aforementioned characteristics. Finally, we provide a number of observations for the future direction in this field, which can be helpful for subsequent researchers.

A Scheme for a Sustainable Urban Water Environmental System During the Urbanization Process in China Article

Huibin Yu, Yonghui Song, Xin Chang, Hongjie Gao, Jianfeng Peng

Engineering 2018, Volume 4, Issue 2,   Pages 190-193 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2018.03.009

Abstract:

Urbanization is a potential factor in economic development, which is a main route to social development. As the scale of urbanization expands, the quality of the urban water environment may deteriorate, which can have a negative impact on sustainable urbanization. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of the functions of the urban water environment is necessary, including its security, resources, ecology, landscape, culture, and economy. Furthermore, a deep analysis is required of the theoretical basis of the urban water environment, which is associated with geographical location, landscape ecology, and a low-carbon economy. In this paper, we expound the main principles for constructing a system for the urban water environment (including sustainable development, ecological priority, and regional differences), and suggest the content of an urban water environmental system. Such a system contains a natural water environment, an economic water environment, and a social water environment. The natural water environment is the base, an effective economic water environment is the focus, and a healthy social water environment is the essence of such a system. The construction of an urban water environment should rely on a comprehensive security system, complete scientific theory, and advanced technology.

Advances in Studying Functional Components of Oil-Bearing Materials and Developments of Related Technology

Zhang Genwang

Strategic Study of CAE 2000, Volume 2, Issue 3,   Pages 82-86

Abstract:

Oil-bearing materials are the main source of vegetable oils and proteins. Some fatty acids and certain structured lipids have particular biological functionality. Important progress has been made in this respect in recent years. Certain amount of socalled wastes are produced simultaneously along with the vegatable oils and proteins production, which have not been utilized perfectly for a long time. Actually, many value-added prod-ucts can be isolated from the “wastes”,such as lecithin, tocopherols, tocotrienols, plant sterols and stanols, isoflavones, saponins, phytic acids, trypsin, oligsaccharides, phenolic acids, etc. Then are considered to be functional components. Due to the particularity of the functional components, current technology and equipments of oil industry are not totally adaptable to the requirement of their isolation. Thus, the innovations of fats and oils technology as well as the utilization of biotechnology in making structured lipids are of great significance .

A replenishment for resource reserves:functional reserves— Replacing 1/10~1/5 strategic oil reserve with strategic methanol reserve

Jin Yong,Chen Bingzhen

Strategic Study of CAE 2008, Volume 10, Issue 11,   Pages 4-6

Abstract:

The strategic oil reserve is very important for every large country in the world. In order to meet the basic requirement of the state safety, 3 months strategic oil reserve in every large country was proposed by the different international organizations such as UN, EU, etc. For China, the total amount of strategic oil reserve must be up to about 30 to 90 millions. It is very difficult to achieve it without enormous capita in short time. Based on a new conception as "function reserve" to replenish the "resource reserve", this goal could be more easy to be accomplished.Namely, storing more methanols replaces some percentage of oil. Moreover, the state safety should be ensured. This topic is discussed in the article in detail.

Design and In Situ Additive Manufacturing of Multifunctional Structures Article

Yan Zhang, Guangyu Zhang, Jing Qiao, Longqiu Li

Engineering 2023, Volume 28, Issue 9,   Pages 58-68 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2022.11.009

Abstract:

Multifunctional structures (MFSs) integrate diverse functions to achieve superior properties. However, conventional design and manufacturing methods—which generally lack quality control and largely depend on complex equipment with multiple stations to achieve the integration of distinct materials and devices—are unable to satisfy the requirements of MFS applications in emerging industries such as aerospace engineering. Motivated by the concept of design for manufacturing, we adopt a layer regulation method with an established optimization model to design typical MFSs with load-bearing, electric, heat-conduction, and radiation-shielding functions. A high-temperature in situ additive manufacturing (AM) technology is developed to print various metallic wires or carbon fiber-reinforced high-meltingpoint polyetheretherketone (PEEK) composites. It is found that the MFS, despite its low mass, exceeds the stiffness of the PEEK substrate by 21.5%. The embedded electrics remain functional after the elastic deformation stage. Compared with those of the PEEK substrate, the equivalent thermal conductivity of the MFS beneath the central heat source area is enhanced by 568.0%, and the radiation shielding is improved by 27.9%. Moreover, a satellite prototype with diverse MFSs is rapidly constructed as an illustration. This work provides a systematic approach for high-performance design and advanced manufacturing, which exhibits considerable prospects for both the function expansion and performance enhancement of industrial equipment.

High-Performance and Multifunctional Cement-Based Composite Material Article

Victor C. Li

Engineering 2019, Volume 5, Issue 2,   Pages 250-260 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2018.11.031

Abstract:

Concrete is a continuously evolving material, and even the definition of high-performance concrete has changed over time. In this paper, high-performance characteristics of concrete material are considered to be those that support the desirable durability, resilience, and sustainability of civil infrastructure that directly impact our quality of life. It is proposed that high-performance material characteristics include tensile ductility, autogenous crack-width control, and material “greenness.” Furthermore, smart functionalities should be aimed at enhancing infrastructure durability, resilience, and sustainability by responding to changes in the surrounding environment of the structure in order to perform desirable functions, thus causing the material to behave in a manner more akin to certain biological materials. Based on recent advances in engineered cementitious composites (ECC), this paper suggests that concrete embodying such high-performance characteristics and smart multifunctionalities can be designed, and holds the potential to fulfill the expected civil infrastructure needs of the 21st century. Highlights of relevant properties of ECC are provided, and directions for necessary future research are indicated.
